Each hour a stoker Valery should throw coals into the furnace to heat the administration building and two houses during a New Year's Eve in the village of Due. Sakhalin still depends on coal for heating, even though a lot of gas and oil is extracted in the region and exported to nearby areas like China, Korea and Japan.
