As the area of Zabolotie abounds with lakes and rivers, fish is one of the most important things for tatars. They eat fish and sell it in winter when the winter road is built. Fish is also a kind of a currency in some cases: it's common to trade fish (as well as other gifts of nature like berries, meat, mushrooms, etc) for gas, flour, sugar, etc.
